Fenix's latest higher-end caving headlamp offering, powered by a 21700 battery with 5000mAh capacity for extra long run times, and a maximum 2700 lumens of output!

Charging is directly to the built-in USB-C port, covered with a flap to keep dirt and water out. HM71R converts to a right angle torch simply by snapping it out of its headlamp base. In this mode the lamp can free stand, be attached by its powerful magnetic tail cap or clipped to a pocket.

Questions & Answers

Question: Will this lamp survive a cave?

Answer: Of course, we only sell cave-suitable lighting! As a minimum they will survive drops and temporary immersion in water, some will also handle extended immersion at depth. IP66 should be the minimum to consider for caving, IP68 will see you through any normal caving abuse.

Question: Is charging built in, or do I need a separate charger?

Answer: Charging is built-in on this lamp, using the provided cable.

Question: Is this lamp best as a main beam or a backup light?

Answer: This is suitable for use as a main beam. Nothing to stop you using it as a backup light, of course, but there are lighter-weight backup lamps out there.

Question: Is there a battery provided?

Answer: Yes, a battery is included with the product.

Question: Can I use unprotected battery cells?

Answer: We STRONGLY recommend not to! While this lamp does include some protection circuitry, the safety measures built into protected cells are much more reliable and can avoid other battery race conditions. In addition, the lower height of unprotected cells might make them incompatible with the battery compartment in this lamp. For the sake of a few pounds, it's surely worth avoiding a nasty chemical fire on your forehead deep underground!
